It’s unanimous among movie buffs: cats truly shine on the big screen. Their presence ranges from enchanting to empowering — we can’t seem to get enough of them! But cat performances in film vary widely; some leave us breathless with excitement while others just leave us cringing. Let’s explore some of the top notch cat performances first.
Over the years countless iconic feline characters have graced our screens — animated or otherwise — captivating audiences everywhere with their wit and charm.

Take Alice in Wonderland’s Cheshire Cat or Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch — their unique energy was unforgettable. But real life kitties don’t disappoint either! Jonesy from Alien delivered an understated yet compelling performance that left a lasting impact on viewers worldwide. It seems that there is just something magical about capturing a cat’s natural gracefulness and agility on camera — a quality that translates seamlessly into cinematic artistry. Admittedly though, not every cat performance can claim such excellence.

It’s not uncommon for certain cat performances featured in movies to miss the mark entirely. Perhaps one of the most notorious examples of this was with Cats’ CGI cats — their unsettlingly lifelike movements coupled with an odd appearance left viewers perplexed and disturbed.

To add insult to injury, even The Cat in the Hat couldn’t pull off its use of apathetic and amateurish felines — not something any self respecting cat enthusiast would wish upon on screen kitties!

But what will the future hold for feline filmography? Advances in technology and our understanding of cat psychology will surely make working with cats on set a lot easier. And the number of kitties going viral on social media will only lead to a rise in their cinema appearances too.

Whether they’re falling flat on their faces or giving an Oscar-worthy performance, it’s quite clear that cats have something important to convey through the cinematic arts! Perhaps they’re teaching us a life lesson with their independent spirit and magnificent confidence, or maybe we just love their aloof “cattitude” and cute fluffy paws.. Whatever the case, we have a lot to learn from movie star cats!

What do you think about cats in films? Do you have a favorite performer?

To end things on a funny note, here’s today’s cute cat joke: What’s a cat’s favorite color? Purr-ple!
