They asked me if I like Cats OR Dogs - I said I love Cats AND Dogs

Why do I choose to write about pets, and especially about cats?

Whether you’re single, in a relationship, married or part of a large family, living on your own or not, pets have a way of complementing our life and giving us a sense of purpose. Life is all about social interaction, and that includes other people and animals too. Pets make our life better in so many ways, but many times we take them for granted until it’s too late.

When it comes down to the eternal debate of cats versus dogs, I’ve come to this realization: There’s no need to pick one, you can have both. In this case it doesn’t have to be a matter of EITHER OR. Each furry companion brings so a different set of qualities to our life, and although I feel closer and resonate more with cats, I’ve never under-appreciated dogs. Or other pets for that matter!

So why do cats play such a significant role in my writing? I suppose I like to think I also possess some of the qualities they love to show off. Cats are highly independent spirits, with a good knowledge of their own and others’ boundaries. While they’re always seeking comfort and safety, they also have a way of thinking outside the box and pushing the limits of what is possible.

On the other paw, dogs radiate loyalty, enthusiasm and positivity in general. With their boundless energy and playful nature, they always seem to be living the moment and enjoying the simple things. In today’s world that’s something we should all aspire to, I know I sure do!

For a writer, cats and dogs can be an infinite source of inspiration, from their everyday antics to their behavior quirks, you just have to look and understand their own special ways of showing love. Considering the joy, the laughter and the lessons they provide, why limit ourselves to the labels “cat person” or “dog lover” when we can experience the unconditional love of both cats and dogs?

I usually like to end my articles with a lighthearted joke, so here’s what I came up with this time:

Why did the cat and dog go to therapy?

Because they needed to work through their “pet” peeves!
